Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 09/22/2007




A more collectible record than a Blues 78 RPM does not exist right now. Week after week for the last five months, these records have made the top five eBay sales again and again. This week one made the top of the list, beating out three soul and one classical record.

A Robert Johnson 78 RPM "Terraplane Blues" / "Kind Hearted Woman" sold for $4,100.00, receiving 25 bids from a starting bid of $9.99. This was a little below the $4,330.00 this record sold at last year.

In the #2 spot, A northern soul 45 RPM record, The Four Voices "Your Love Is Getting Stronger" / "With A Lonely Heart" on Voice closed at $2,399.99, receiving 20 bids from a starting bid of $199.99

Next, another northern soul 45, Chuck Cockerham "Have I Got It Right" / "Hey There" on Mala sold for $2080.00, getting 25 bids from a starting bid of $249.99.

A classical LP set came in at #4, Bach 3 Sonatas, Henryk Szeryng on Violin, on the Odeon label sold for $2,025.00, receiving 4 bids from a starting bid of $999.00

And last, another soul 45, Tolbert "Lucky Man" / "I've Got It" on Rojac sold for $2,024.00, getting 11 bids from a starting bid of $999.00.

Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 09/15/2007


A rare Doo-Wop record took the #1 spot this week, The Five Crowns "I Want You" / "Hillum Bay" on the De'Besth label sold for $5,900.00 with 9 bids from a starting bid of $2999.99. This record was a DJ promo copy. Next, a very rare 78 RPM on the Gennett "Muddy Water" / "Sugar" by Black Birds of Paradise sold for $4,349.99 receiving 19 bids from a starting bid of $9.95.

A Sonny Clark blues LP on Blue Note "Cool Struttin'" sold for $3,692.00 receiving 30 bids from a starting bid of $1.00. In the #4 spot, a rare French piano LP "Henriette Faure (piano) Ravel Miroirs / Le tombeau de Couperin" on the Pathe label sold for $2,326.00 with 17 bids from a starting bid of $199.99.

And last, another Doo-Wop 45 RPM Record, The Coins "Please" / "Loretta" on the Model label sold for $2,113.88 with 17 bids from a starting bid of $2.99.

Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 09/08/2007


Last week saw three country 78 RPM records, all from the same artist, all sold by the same seller, make the top five, including the #1 and #2 spots. Country violinist Osey Helton's 78 RPM "Rocky Road To Dublin" / "Green River" sold for $5655.55, receiving 12 bids from a starting bid of $9.99. Also, Helton's "Cumbling Gap" / "Ashville" 78 RPM sold for $4,272.50, receving 20 bids from a starting bid of $9.99. All of Helton's 78's were on the Broadway label and were issued after very limited pressings in the early 1920's.

A promo pressing on Columbia Six-Eye of Bob Dylan's first LP made the #3 spot, closing at auction for $2303.00, receiving 24 bids from a starting bid of $0.99.

In the #4 spot, a private pressing from Germany of Bach Cello Suites sold for $2,137.20, receiving 17 bids from a starting bid of $0.99.

And finally, the last Osey Helton 78 RPM in the top five, "Cacklin' Hen" / "Arkansaw Traveler" sold for $2,125.00, receiving 8 bids from a starting bid of $9.99.

Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 09/01/2007


Not a whole lot of activity in terms of dollars last week, the top 5 were full of great rarities, most of which sold around the $2k mark. A very rare Sun 45 from Doug Poindexter, "Now She Cares No More" / "My Kind Of Carrying On" topped sales at $2,627.99, receiving 9 bids from a starting bid of $400.00.

Next, a beautiful blues 78 from Sunnyland Slim, "Hard Times" / "School Days" on the Tempo-Tone label sold for $2052. The record received 15 bids from a starting bid of $9.95. Sunnyland Slim's records are among the most collectible of 78's.

A rare private press Metal LP from 1985, Paradoxx "Plan Of Attack", sold for $2000.00 receiving its asking price with one bid.

In the #4 spot, the rarest of the "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" LP releases, a Japanese red wax edition on Odeon, sold for $1,785.00, receiving 13 bids from a starting bid of $999.99.

Last, a Doo-Wop 45 RPM record, The Four Lover with "My Life For Your Love" / "Pucker Up" on Epic sold for $1720.00, receiving 21 bids from a starting bid of $9.99.
