Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 10/22/2011

A "Please Please Me" getting the top spot has become about as common as VP Joe Biden saying something that would have had your mother call out to you to run and get your grandfather's medication. The real story this week is that for the first time since the last time someone dropped $25k on a diamond braclet infused Ice Cream Sundae at Serendipity 3, a prevously unknown Soul 45 topped $5k on an audio clip alone - no holy grail status, no spot in Keb Darge's playlist - just the clip in the eBay ad. The Emeralds 45 is a Chicago uptempo dancer that got bidders as excited as they can get. By comparison, the De-Lite's acetate, a known entity with holy grail status (don't know if it's on Keb Darge's playlist but many DJs spin it) gets the #5 spot.

1. LP - The Beatles "Please Please Me" Parlophone UK STEREO black & gold label matrix 1R/1G Dick James credits - $12,932.23

2. 45 - The Emeralds "Catch Me I'm Falling" / "Beware" Vick 302 - $7,199.00

3. LP - Pink Floyd "More" Odeon First Pressing - $4,999.99

4. LP - Leonid Kogan "Beethoven Violin Concerto" Columbia 1052 UK Pressing - $4,943.88

5. 10" - De-Lites "Lover" / "Tell Me Why" Acetate - $3,500.00

Paul McCartney Audition Letter - From Yesterday's VRT

Here is a picture of the Paul McCartney letter offering an audition to an unknown drummer. We talked about this on yesterday's VRT. Always open every book you buy. Don't necessarily read it, but definitely open it.

This letter was found in a book purchased at a parking lot sale. It's expected to sell at Christie's in London for around $11,000.00 next week.

Nice big pic here:

Christopher Guest Bob Dylan Parody - Positively Wall Street

Parody came up on yesterday's VRT and this is a recent find for me and current favorite. First, Belushi and Chevy Chase look like two high school kids I might try to run over on my way home. Second, a trope in which Bob Dylan is shown as anything other than a revered God may be the closest available substitue to time travel, at least to the year 1973. Third, Christopher Guest is about 24 years old in this, amazing talent.

A Beatles EP out of France shoots up over 10k for the #1 spot. The Doors acetate is of a studio session from 1965, pre Robbie Krieger, with early versions of "Hello, I Love You" and "Moonlight Drive".

1. 45 - The Beatles French EP "From Me To You" Police Sandwich Cover Odeon SOE 3379 - $11,350.90

2. LP - Leonid Kogan "Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto" SAX 2323 UK Pressing - $5,250.00

3. LP - Doors demo acetate - $3,650.00

4. LP - The Beatles "White Album" Parlophone UK Export Pressing - $3,396.79

5. LP - Spirogyra "Bells, Boots & Shambles" Polydor UK Pressing - $2,892.77

Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 10/08/2011

Australian DIY punk band from the late 70s ties with Pink Floyd for the #1 spot. The Italian orange vinyl edition is the most soft after pressing of The Wall LP, and in an otherwise lackluster week goes for $500.00 more than any previously known sale. The private press LP in the #3 spot has to have the best band name and album title of all time for a 60s psychedelic hippie band.

1. 45 - The Thought Criminals "Hilton Bomber / I Won't Pay" / "Fun / O. Bleak T.V." Private - $3,500.00

1. LP - Pink Floyd "The Wall" Orange Wax Italian Pressing - $3,500.00

2. 45 - Iron Maiden Clairvoyant uncut picture disc - $2,464.64

3. LP - Princess Flower & The Moon Rays "Dreaming The Magic Of Your Maya" Private - $2,225.00

4. LP - Sonny Clart Sextet "Dial S For Sunny" Blue Note 1570 original - $2,100.00

5. LP - Rolling Stones "Rolled Gold" unreleased test pressing of 3LP version circa 1975 - $2,150.24

Vinyl Record Talk Show - Live - Today, Tuesday October 18th 8pm ET / 5pm PT on Radio Dentata

Vinyl Record Talk will be live today from our new home at Irvine Office and Storage (the place is much snazzier than name - I'm going to need to talk to them about that. The place needs a better name). So all wires hooked up correctly, Jane and I (pictured left) will bring you an all new broadcast with music, news and the Top 5 vinyl record sales on eBay for the past two weeks.

Music will be free form today as I don't yet know what equipment will grace us with actually working correctly, so we may have to resort to singing acapella.

In the news, we'll have the story of a Beatles audtion letter, found in a book, that's going on auction.

Vinyl Record Talk Show - Live - Today, Tuesday October 4th 8pm ET / 5pm PT on Radio Dentata

We're live again today 5:00pm pacific time with an all new Vinyl Record Talk. This week we are featuring a brilliant copy of the very rare Longbranch and Pennywhistle LP. It's so rare, the Doctor of Pop Culture almost threw in the scrap bin. This LP was recorded in 1969 by Glenn Frey and J D Souther who performed as a duo under this name before forming The Eagles, long before they both sucked.

We'll also play some Kiss by request, and various other pieces of vinyl we have around here.

In the news, a segment about the photographer responsible for the famous Beatles "Yesterday and Today" butcher cover, and a very interesting Top 5. Listen with the Live365 widget on the left hand side, or at www.radiodentata.com.

Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 10/01/2011

A godly week this week, save for the #2 spot going to a Northern Soul rarity. The pulled A&M "God Save The Queen" sold for a very high price over $17k - the probable reasons being that, for one, the record was mint, and for another it came with the stock box that at one point held 25 copies of this record.

1. 45 - Sex Pistols "God Save The Queen" / "No Feeling" A&M AMS-7284 - $17,179.47

2. 45 - Ray Agee "Hard Loving Woman" / "I'm Losing Again" Soultown - $5,299.99

3. LP - Led Zeppelin "I" Atlantic UK Turquoise 1st - $3,435.89

4. LP - Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" DJ Mono Pressing - $3,050.00

5. LP - The Beatles "White Album" Parlophone UK Export Pressing - $2,999.99
