Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 12/24/2011

A sweet find turned up this week, a test pressing of "Freewheelin'" that has the alternate tracks that were mistakenly released on the original pressing. A stock copy of "Freewheelin'" typically sells for around half the $5k price that this test pressing bid to. Psych stuff continues to make the list, with Canadian holy grail "Bent Wind" getting the #2 spot, and Delany and Bonnie's Apple record getting the #4 spot. Poking in at the bottom is a KBD 45 from Bad Brains.

1. LP - Bob Dylan "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" Test Press LP Alternate Tracks - $5,212.00

2. LP - Bent Wind "Sussex" Trend 1015 - $4,064.00

3. LP - Jaques Dumont Bach Sonata & Partitas Belvedre - $3,962.00

4. LP - Delany & Bonnie "The Original Delaney And Bonnie" Apple SAPCOR7 UK Pressing - $3,534.64

5. 45 - Bad Brains "Pay To Cum" / "Stay Close To Me" w/sleeve and insert - $2,938.00

VRT Show is on haitus. This space will still be active with the Top 5 and whatever other record collecting freaky stuff we find.

Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 12/17/2011

In 1971 you could have found any of these records in a used bin for a half-dollar. Maybe the Brute Force 45 might not have turned up so easily as it was given out, more or less, as a joke by Apple Corp employees and was never officially released. This week is an honor roll of psych holy grails, with the Mexican psychedelic band Kaleidoscope having their only release topping the list.

1. LP - The Kaleidoscope "self-titled" Orfeon - $7,200.00

2. 45 - Brute Force "King Of Fuh" / "Nobody Knows" Apple 8 - $4,374.00

3. LP - The Bachs "Out of the Bachs" Private Press - $3,888.00

4. LP - The Beatles "Yesterday & Today" Capitol T-2553 #6 Mono 2nd State Butcher Cover - $3,483.83

5. LP - Damon "Song Of A Gypsy" Private Press - $3,450.00

VRT Show is on haitus. This space will still be active with the Top 5 and whatever other record collecting freaky stuff we find.

Support Those Who Scour The Earth For Grooved Black Gold - Buy Some Stuff Damn It

Even Santa appreciates our shameless self-promotion via guilt trip that you aren't spending enough with Mom and Pop's this year.

And you can't get much more Mom and Pop than Vinyl Record Talk's Store. Jane and Norm search the country for lost treasures of music history because, simply stated, people buy this stuff from them.

Vinyl Record Talk Show on Radio Dentata is Jane and Norm promoting vinyl, record collecting, and the huge cache of music that has yet to be transfered to digital media. Each week we play several pieces of vinyl history that are not available for commercial download. We cover news topics on collecting, auctioning and internet broadcasting.

And did you know, many of Jane's fans turn off the NFL Network just to hear her voice. So listen to us on Radio Dentata and click and go to our store. Buy stuff. It will atone for many corporate sins.

Vinyl Record Talk Show Will Be Going On Haitus Until Next Year

First, apologies for the last two weeks. Two Tuesdays ago, storms in Tennessee took down power and our feed was lost halfway through the show. Yesterday, Radio Dentata's move to a new server crapped out. The player was not working well in IE, among other problems. Some of our listeners who chat with Jane through Yahoo messenger (feel free to message Jane and say hello at janegeddis), kept going to the Live365 station and not the Radio Dentata website. The Live365 station only has an auto playing music now, and will be gone in a few days. Radiodentata.com will have the live feed. I'm not sure about Tune In and the other sites that list the feed, but it probably will take some time to update them. For the time being, listen at Radiodentata.com only. There's a big frickin' link there that says "Play It - TUNE IN HERE". It's up and down now right now being tested and tweaked, but shall stablize and RD will be back to its original programming and great music, with many more live programs coming next year.

So, VRT will be back next year. We'll update here on the continuing saga.

No doubt the Beatles stuff is hot right now. The "Love Me Do" 45 usually goes for $7k - 10k with the sleeve. But if a scrap of paper (see Lennon to-do list post) sells for $16k, what Beatles item isn't worth more than its weight in gold? The non-Beatle entries on this week's list are worth a look. The Maitrey Kali LP is the very rare double LP version, not the more typical single LP repress. And the "Love Buzz" 7" as a test pressing gets about double what one of the regular releases bring.

1. 45 - The Beatles "Love Me Do" / "P.S. I Love You" Parlophone Demo with sleeve - $17,338.20

2. LP - Maitreya Kali "Apache/Inca" Private Press - $10,101.00

3. LP - The Beatles "Please Please Me" Parlophone Stereo UK 2nd Pressing - $7,029.00

4. 45 - Nirvana "Love Buzz" / "Big Cheese" Test Pressing - $4,350.00

5. LP - The Beatles "Please Please Me" Parlophone Stereo UK 1st Pressing - $3.982.10

Radio Dentata is currently going through a server upgrade, with all new features planned for next year. So VRT Show is going on haitus. This space will still be active with the Top 5 and whatever other record collecting freaky stuff we find.

Vinyl Record Talk Show - Live - Tuesday December 6th 8pm ET / 5pm PT on Radio Dentata

Be sure to go only to Radio Dentata for today's show. The Live365 station is playing only an auto, and that will be going down in a few days.

Jane will pick up where the old server dropped us last week about half-way through the show and continue with her playlist of 60s favorites. Norm has numerous 45s he wants to spin, plus the final tally on bids for John Lennon's To-Do List.

This link will take you directly to the player.

John Lennon's To-Do List

Radio Dentata lost today's live feed of Vinyl Record Talk about half-way through the show, so we never got to today's news. I thought I'd share the to-do list that was the subject of today's news story. This list is on auction at "Gotta Have Rock And Roll" and bidding currently sits at close to $6000.00. John Lennon wrote this list in the 70s (we know this because the list notes that his HBO needs to be fixed).

Notice Lennon is picking up "herb" from some guy named Steve. I was texting Malice Cooper during her show and she speculated that the only thing that got done on this list was the "herb".
Me, I'm not so sure. I think the marmalade probably got picked up too. And the cable guy got let in. But I'll bet that bathroom hook never got fixed.

Vinyl Record Talk Show - Live - Tuesday December 6th 8pm ET / 5pm PT on Radio Dentata

More weird John Lennon stuff shows up at auction in the news. We have acquired a sweet collection of 45s, and we'll be playing some of those including a very funny Lee Eldred record on Chess.

As well, we have a number of obscure LPs from the early 70s and we'll play some tracks from the CSN sounding band Wally, and a band akin to the Moody Blues - Willow.
