Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 01/28/2012

The record that launched a million bands tops the list this week. It's said of the 1000 or so people who bought the first Velvet Underground record when it came out that every one of them went out and started a band. Well that is certainly true even up to today of just about everyone who bought a reissue. The copy that sold this week and topped the list actually came in a very low price, considering the seller described it as flawless. A near mint copy has sold for twice the price in better times. The vinyl market doesn't seem depressed as just all over the place. Some weeks prices break records, others, like this one, disappoint. The Combinations 45 is a killer Northern that has gone for $6k in the past.

The next three spots (including a tie for #3) are taken by German violin 78s, and a 60s private Psych LP out of Duluth MN finds it way onto the list.

1. LP - The Velvet Underground "The Velvet Underground And Nico" Verve Mono Banana Peel Cover - $3,144.37

2. 45 - The Combinations "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" / "The Goddess Of Love" Kimtone 1001 - $2,646.00

3. 78 - Professor Adolf Busch "Gavotte" / "Schero" Berlin DG 62470 - $2,500.00

3. 78 - Professor Adolf Busch "Dvorak: Slavonic Dance No.7" / "Tartini: Vartationen Uber Ein Thema Von Corelli" Berlin DG 65980

4. 78 - Freddie Keppard's Jazz Cardinals "Strut 1" / "Salty Dog" Paramount 12399 - $2,225.00

5. LP - The Sound Of The Reign "Reigned Out" Private Press - $2,000.00
