Vinyl Records Top 5 eBay Sales Week Ending 07/16/2011

There is no Top 5 for this week. I refuse to sift through turds to come up with the ingredients for a good meal. No one wants to eat from a dung heap or cook from it. This ain't sports collecting. Aside from my admitted bias that the average record collector has a few dozen more IQ points than the average sports collector, we play our artifacts, not encase them in plastic. So by the very reality that the items we purchase will most likely be degraded by our use and human frailty before we pass them on, we are forced to become a more savvy and knowing bunch.

So when the top of the spectrum is filled with records that have the same handful of bidders jumping the price from tens or hundreds of dollars to around $10,000.00 dollars, I'm going to figure I know what's going on, and this tactic hasn't yet worked for the red label Pressley 45 so it ain't going to work for a handful of Northern European death metal records.

This is only the second week in four plus years that does not have a Top 5 on this blog.

Rebroadcast of VRT Today, Same Time, 8pm ET / 5pm PT

It's all Malice Cooper's fault! Oh hell, Internet Radio is a labor of love of all sorts of weird and unpaid people, and we jumble it all together and sometimes it don't work. So a scripting error caused our show to cut off after a few minutes and also Ralph Greco and Nick Tann's shows. So Radio Dentata will be rebroadcasting Tuesday's music schedule tonight.

And Malice Cooper's show is very cool, and who can get mad at a woman who looks like this (or who would dare):

Jane and I on CRAGG this Sat, no new VRT this week

Jane and I are spending a much deserved week where the most important thing to remember is to strain the goat milk.

No new VRT this week. We are very excited that we will be on Cult Radio A Go Go this Saturday for the full 4hrs with Terry and Tiffany DuFoe. There will be video simulcast on the CRAGG site, where we will discuss many objects strange and rare. Terry and Tiffany are archivists and currators of horror, cult and camp films. More knowledge about lost pop culture history will be in one room than may be safe for space and time. Disaster begins 6pm PT Saturday.

Here's my view until then.

New Vinyl Record Talk Tuesday July 5th 8pm ET/ 5pm PT

Want to hear what $8000 dollars sounds like? Norm and Jane play a repress of this week's #1 on the Top 5, J D Bryant's Shrine 45 "I Won't Be Coming Back". Plus original vinyl pressings from Thirteenth Floor Elevators and The Unchained Mynds.

We also play a very bizarre find, a sort of modern soul, sort of early-rap 45 that we cannot find a shred of information about - Toto Lotto "Superman" on the Albedo label from 1978.

Plus Jim Morrison's 40th death annivsary in the news, and we ask which rock icon likely faked his own death in this week's poll.

Two singles from the legendary Shrine label made it out into the world and to the top of the list this week. All but about 50 copies of the first and only run of singles pressed by Shrine survived a warehouse fire that destroyed the complete production run and the label itself.

A rare Prog LP on the Vertigo label gets the #3 spot, and a Kogan violin concerto makes the list for a second week in a row. The #5 spot goes to a rare Rockabilly 45.

1. 45 - J D Bryant "I Won't Be Coming Back" / "Walk On It" Shrine 108 - $8,001.00

2. 45 - Bill Dennis "I'll Never Let You Get Away" / "Poor Little Fool" Shrine - $7,866.00

3. LP - Dr Z "Three Parts To My Soul" Vertigo - $2,810.00

4. LP - Leonid Kogan "Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto" SAX 2323 UK Pressing - $2,422.95

5. 45 - Jimmy Johnson "All Dressed Up" / "Woman Love" Starday 561 - $2,391.16
