This Record Store Day, Five Years Of The Top 5 - We Play The Rarest Of The Rare On This Week's Vinyl Record Talk Tuesday April 17th, 9pm ET / 6pm PT

eBay is the antithesis of everything Record Store Day is supposed to be about - supporting your local record dealer, getting out in the spring air, spending money on newly pressed special issues so record labels can live out their last few years with slight dignity.

And, it's only a coincidence that VRT started the Top Five as a weekly blog entry back in April of 2007.  But we don't see why we can't have the same right to exploitation any old record label has.

So for the past five years on Record Store Day, we've been publishing the top collectible record sales on eBay for each month of the past year.  And on this week's Vinyl Record Talk we're going to play some of the top rarities from the past five years.

In the news, we're going to explore the genius of Jack White and tell you why you should keep your eyes fixed on the skies.  And, unashamedly, we'll have the past week's Top 5 record sales on eBay.

Please join us for this week's VRT live on Radio Dentata and Blog TV.

January 2009 / LP - Pink Floyd "Meddle" EMI Columbia Blue Vinyl Pressing - $12,000.00

February 2009 / 78 - Ripley Cotton Choppers "Silver Bells" / "Blue Waltz" Sun - $5,201.00

March 2009 / LP - Pavement "Terror Twilight" Domino TEST PRESS - $9999.99

Last year it was White Album #0000006, this year it's White Album #0000005 that makes the #1 top album sale on eBay, selling for $9k more than its predecessor at $30k. The first four White Albums were reportedly given to the Beatles themselves. Save for an acetate of "Carnival Of Light" showing up, its hard to imagine any Beatles vinyl artifact fetching more than these two White Albums.

Also worthy of notice is the first Hip Hop record to show up on the weekly Top 5, Kool D.J. A.J.'s "Ah, That's The Joint" also topped the month of June. Tool and Pavement, two bands who came into existence post Reagan administration, give this years list a touch of youth.
