Vinyl Record Art - A Vinyl Record Dance Floor

Vinyl Flooring

Is it just that I'm a lousy dancer, or would you be constantly tripping yourself up on the edges of the records too? And how do you clean this after?

Vinyl Record Art - Dali Clock

Sometimes it seems that anywhere you are you could swing a dead 70's arena band drummer and hit somebody who makes clocks out of vinyl records. And that's probably true. But once in awhile one of those clocks stands out. This clock melting off the mantlepiece is really cool, best use of what's become a trite idea. I just hope to god that it isn't a Bay City Rollers record.

Vinyl Records News - Led Zeppelin reunion goes to vinyl and Obama lip sync's Whole Lotta Love

Led Zeppelin's 2007 reunion concert is coming to vinyl at the end of January 2013.  "Celebration Day" is a 3LP set on 180 gram vinyl of the live concert at 02 arena in London.

This is the second Led Zeppelin related vinyl release this year after Jimmy Page remixed the original soundtrack for the film "Lucifer Rising" which he never completed in the early 70s.

President Obama is apparently a Led Zeppelin fan.  A video emerged on YouTube last week showing the President lip syncing to Lenny Kravitz performance of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love".

USA Today posted a video of the lip syncing moment but that video has been taken down.  Well, as long as it lasts.  Here's another.  Look for Obama at about the 00:35 mark.

Vinyl Record Buyers And Sellers Attack The Gates Of eBay with Facebook

Record sellers, and I'm sure sellers of other stuff, have long dreamed of finding a home away from eBay, just in the same way prisoners in North Korea dream of escaping their camps.

Since the days of the implementation of the system-no-one-can-comprehend-and-no-one-is-accountable-for back about 2007 many alternative sites have come and gone, but none save Etsy have found any traction for buyers and sellers of vinyl records.  And well, face it . . . Etsy is kinda girly.  My friend Lisa Sumner does a great job selling vinyl on Etsy.  But she's a girl.  I've just started on Etsy and it's just not all that intuitive to me.

Recently I've found a small but growing number of groups on Facebook, and quite a bit of buying and selling is taking place.  So far this activity might constitute pock marks in the empire's wall and nothing more, but hey, the fall of Rome had to start with someone spitting over the line.

Here are some of the groups on Facebook:

45 RPM BUY SELL TRADE: This group is for buying and selling any 45 that isn't classic rock and released before 1970, but seems to lean to Rockabilly in terms of buyers.

FUNK, SOUL, AFROBEAT & OTHER RARE 45's:  Name says it all.  The 45's can be any soul related and early Rap and Hip-Hop too, as long as they are 7in.

VINYL TRADE / BUY / SELL: This group is fairly new and has only a few members.  But it's open to pretty much anything on vinyl.

Shooting starts this month in Ireland, for the Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Outkast rapper Andre 3000.

The film will include the period from Hendrix being discovered in a New York club by Keith Richard’s girlfriend Linda Keith and management by former Animals bassist Chas Chandler, through to the recording of debut album Are You Experienced. Shooting is expected to take six weeks.
All is By My Side's writer and director, John Ridley also penned Three Kings and U-Turn.
Andre Benjamin,(aka 3000) is no stranger to television and the movies and has previously played roles in The Shield and in Guy Richie’s movie Revolver.

History Picking - May 5, 1956 Elvis Presley Scores #1 Hit Single And Album

1956, Elvis Presley scored his first US No.1 single and album when 'Heartbreak Hotel' went to the top of the charts. 'Heartbreak Hotel' became his first million-seller, and was the best-selling single of 1956. The lyrics were based on a newspaper article about the suicide of a lonely man who jumped from a hotel window.

Check Out - "Northern Soul" The Film

This is a story of a youth culture that changed a generation and influenced songwriters, producers, DJs and designers for decades to come.

This is the story of Northern Soul.
Award-winning director Elaine Constantine will begin shooting her first feature-length film Northern Soul in Summer 2012 under Stubborn Heart Productions and in association with Baby Cow Films.

The film will tell the tale of two Northern boys whose worlds are changed forever when they discover black American soul music.

Northern Soul was phenomenally popular with British youths in the 1970s, taking the North of the country by storm. Northern Soul the film intends to appeal to those generations of fans while attracting a modern audience who can relate to youth culture from another era. If you were there, you’ll know. If you weren’t there, you’ll wish you had been.

This Record Store Day, Five Years Of The Top 5 - We Play The Rarest Of The Rare On This Week's Vinyl Record Talk Tuesday April 17th, 9pm ET / 6pm PT

eBay is the antithesis of everything Record Store Day is supposed to be about - supporting your local record dealer, getting out in the spring air, spending money on newly pressed special issues so record labels can live out their last few years with slight dignity.

And, it's only a coincidence that VRT started the Top Five as a weekly blog entry back in April of 2007.  But we don't see why we can't have the same right to exploitation any old record label has.

So for the past five years on Record Store Day, we've been publishing the top collectible record sales on eBay for each month of the past year.  And on this week's Vinyl Record Talk we're going to play some of the top rarities from the past five years.

In the news, we're going to explore the genius of Jack White and tell you why you should keep your eyes fixed on the skies.  And, unashamedly, we'll have the past week's Top 5 record sales on eBay.

Please join us for this week's VRT live on Radio Dentata and Blog TV.
